The Vale is a mini-comic mini-series (focus on the diminutive, we’re British) that takes place in and around the town of Aylesbury, county of Buckinghamshire, England.
The assumption around the world is that this leafy southern area of the UK is full of posh old sorts in their castles drinking tea, rosy-faced bumpkins tilling the rolling hills in traditional fashion.
What isn’t talked about very often are it’s unrequited love affair with youth culture, mythic qualities, long-held historical links to power and downright weirdness.
Welcome to The Vale.
In this book, I play with the local lifestyles, ancient and modern. I play with the history and conspiracy theories. I play with my experiences of day-to-day living in the 3 County Vale.
Always remember, the events and characters are played up for laughs and sheer weirdness… but in many cases not as much as you would think. Ask anyone who’s lived here a while, gone and been inexplicably drawn back by circumstance from Australia or something.
Yep, once The Vale has you, it doesn’t let go.
After a long and bitter secret war, The Illuminati won.
They lifted back the barrier and supernatural forces were amongst us once more.
We lost, darkness engulfed the world. But then… things went back to normal, sort of.
Humans left sane by the events now endlessly cry jet tears from blackened eyes, but are otherwise ok. You know, as much as you could be.
Creatures from the deepest evil places took all the best jobs, leaving the lesser monsters and the few humans that didn’t go insane (or worse) to… Doss around and go to the pub.
Jan Czernowicz took the new world to heart, learning dark arts from his best friend Shugg, the rebellious spawn of an Elder council beast-lord.
He does odd sorcery jobs between stints of doing sod all, around the Vale of Aylesbury.
